It's been a long, been a long day--

Aug. 8th, 2009 | 10:11 pm
mood: tired but happy tired but happy
music: Better Than Ezra - "Conjunction Junction"

So I've had my first week in my new city, on my new job -- another stage management internship. It's been awesome so far: my housemates are great, my housing is incredible, the theatre season is exciting and my boss is terrifyingly competant. And it's really just now hitting me how great of an opportunity I've been given. Quite frankly, I'm a little intimidated -- it's been mentioned to me multiple times, by various people, how my position in particulay is a career-maker -- but I figure that all I have to do is not worry about living up to the person who was presented to them by my application (they accepted me, after all) and concentrate on showing them how much more awesome than that I actually am.

(Tangentially, I'll be heading to New York tomorrow through Monday to assist with a reading at the Manhattan Theatre Club, so I won't be around for the next couple of days. Cell phone will be the choice method of contact!)

Keeping this short and sweet, as I'm in the middle of making onigiri right now, what with not being around to do any cooking for the next few days. Also, I am rather tired. The hot and humid summer weather plus sitting at a desk for ten hours a day (plus a mattress, which, while I appreciate its full size, isn't particularly the best) is doing a number on my back -- my shoulders are like a pair of rocks right now. Painful rocks. So back to puttering around barefoot in the kitchen I go.

And while I know that I have an outstanding meme or two from before my move, here's that "Characters' ~Love Lives~" meme, ganked from Various Folks:

Your result for Roleplayer Test!...

The Soap Opera Star

Plotful, Character-Oriented, Sexual

You're the Soap Opera Star, the center of a massive web of characters -- and more importantly, character relationships. You roleplay mainly for character dynamics, and romantic character dynamics at that: if you didn't start playing with a ship in mind, you're definitely shipping now that you're playing. But it's not random relationships that appeal to you. You like your plots! It's just that most or all of them are personal in nature and revolve around either getting characters together or developing relationships once they've formed. But if given a plot like that, you're a determined, reliable RP partner. However, of all roleplayers, you're likely to be the ones most emotionally attached to your character and to fall in RP-love with the players of your ships.

You scored 6 on Plotful, higher than 59% of your peers.
You scored -4 on Action-Oriented, higher than 43% of your peers.
You scored -3 on Platonic, higher than 18% of your peers.

'Cause everyone's your friend in New Yok City--

Jul. 8th, 2009 | 12:35 am

And so I am returned from a short but lovely trip to New York. Highlights included [info]synergic showing me video of [info]lilorchid1023 wiggling her ass and [info]icebellaseahawk summarizing Pericles for me, which resulted in me making a face comparable to the faces [info]poor_choices and [info]synergic made after consuming the McNuggetini (the sort of face that screams "why" into the void of a cold, uncaring universe). I'll perhaps write up a bit more tomorrow, but mainly I want to post the answers to the Words meme that I finally finished while on the train ride down.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" (or you can just ask for the meme, I won't mind) and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Words from actualize, piecrumbs, hijiri and kingsraven... )

Waking up is harder--

music: Wimbledon on tv

Hello, world. This morning, I passed out on the bathroom floor -- after hurling myself into the closet door and then presumably doing some more moving, as where I woke up was a couple meters away from the last place I remembered being -- in a grand crashing manner, so you all should tell me nice things about myself so that I feel like a useful human being again.

In other news, Gatorade is gross.

I swear to goodness that I'm getting around to doing that "Words!" meme and recounting the grand adventures of the northern Kentity, but my internet was out at the beginning of the week (which led me to find another use for my Twitter account -- putting up a note if I'm unable to get online due to ISP restrictions or power outages) and I haven't been feeling very well since then. And I'm not going to be around much for the next couple of days as...

I'm going to be in New York from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. My mother and I are meeting a cousin for dinner Monday evening and I realize that people have school and work, but if anyone wants to meet for lunch Tuesday or what-have-you, well, I'll be around. I'll probably be getting some shopping (at least of the window variety) done -- it's been a while since I've just tooled around mid-town.

I think I'm going to spend much of my day lazing around and being an invalid.

In other news, stoned wallabies are making crop circles in Tasmania. (News tip from [info]misspeacock.)

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, 2009 -- By The President of the United States of America: A Proclamation

I got the link from [info]hamburger. And, despite the slightly sour feeling in my stomach and headache that have been telling me to go back to bed all day, I am feeling a little awesome right now.

Despite that awesome, however, the aforementioned ailments make me not so keen or able to write anything of particular note right now. (They also mean that, despite my finally managing to haul my ass out of bed at a reasonable time, I had possibly the least productive day ever. Though I think that I watched more television today, with the E3 coverage, than I have in the past half-year or more.)

So, instead, have a collection of memes.

List your top ten OTPs and have your friends try to guess your "type"! Though I was unable to come up with ten... so I propose this! After checking out my list of nine, suggest what you think should go in spot #10 for me! Exclamation point!

Top Ten OTPs (in no particular order)

1. Tatsumi/Tsuzuki (Yami no Matsuei)
2. Umeda/Akiha (HanaKimi)
3. Spitfire/Kazu (Air Gear)
4. Enjolras/Combeferre (Les Miserables)
5. Treize/Zechs (Gundam Wing)
6. Sirius/Lupin (Harry Potter)
7. Hakkai/Gojyo (Saiyuki)
8. Sora/Kiric (Air Gear)
9. Septimus/Thomasina (Arcadia)
10. ...?

The problem with LiveJournal is that we think we're close, but really, we know nothing about each other.

So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about, or something you've always been curious about but have never asked, or something completely silly that you'd like me to answer for kicks. No limits on the range of questions, either: ask me anything you want to know about, whether it's a fannish opinion or a question about a fic of mine or trivia about my real life or my thoughts on events in the offline world.

Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

And here's that bolding meme, where you bold what's true about you. (Any notes that I've added are in italics.)

I'll talk more about it at [info]stage_scroller once I've recovered, but man, we finished up two weeks of tech that opened two big shows... and were thrown right into an understudy situation. Which, having two shows in rotating rep, involves putting the understudies into both shows.

In 24 hours they'll be laying flowers on my life--

music: The Magnetic Fields - "For We Are King of the Boudoir"

So things happen, and I just get out of the habit of posting. But I'm going to try to get back into it, since it's a healthy way for me to vent my spleen. I recently went through the extensive process of self-discovery that I do every so often -- the one where I spend about an hour googling websites about personality types and am offered the reassurance of coming to the same conclusions that I did the last time -- and I learned that I'm actually a very angry person. Why I allow mysself to call this a discovery is a mystery, since I really spend most of my life being a very angry person. Anyway, the reason that I'm doing this entry is not to talk about my troubled relationship with absolutely everything around me but to, as I said, get myself back into the habit of posting -- and also to send out a friendly hello to my new LJ friends! Good to have you here, and here is where pimping of [info]stage_scroller, my theatre blog, goes. Maybe that will motivate me to actually update that a little more.

Things here will likely be pretty brief and erratic and consisting of "please kill me now" for the next few weeks, but I swear that any radio silence will not mean that I've actually died. If I sense that my end is near, I'll text message one of you before I go out in my blaze of stage managerial glory.

Our show opens tomorrow!

In other words, I'd like to somewhere retroactively state that I haven't been around for the past week or so due to said opening tomorrow, and I apologize for any correspondences or what have you that might have fallen through. I'll be doing my best to rejoin life and the rest of the world starting this weekend.

Also, last night I dreamed that I was going to meet up with [info]synergic because I was apartment-searching in New York and she was going to help me. I was quite excited over it, really.

And then I woke up.

4. Tales of the Abyss (technically, the Tales series, I suppose, though I only know TotA)
5. Discworld
6. Watchmen
7. Gundam Wing
8. Saiyuki

10. Full Metal Alchemist

Just making a quick stop on the internet to say that if anyone happens to be in the Williamstown, MA area this coming weekend, there's some good theatre going on, if you have the chance. Travesties is playing on May 1 and 3 at 7:30 PM and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is playing on May 2 at 7:30 PM. Both productions are at the Williams College CenterStage, tickets at $3.

I was lucky enough to be able to see R&G last Friday, and it was, indeed, muy good. I mean, it was starring Ilya and Terry Tam, who are two of my favorite people ever. And the cast had even more of my favorite people in it, like Dav and the Katies. And [info]icebellaseahawk designed the costumes, Julie designed the lights and David designed the sets. And they are also some of my favorite people. Overall, it was a lot of win.

And while I'm at it -- baa, baa, meme.

Let's call this -- posting a bunch of memes -- my attempt to ease myself back into posting. I'm at the tail end of that "busy --> sick --> busier --> sicker --> recovery --> falling into despair over how behind I am with everything and how much I've been failing at life" progression that I go through every so often. I'd wanted to write an actual entry, but at this point, with me being busy during the day and having to beat myself awake past 9:00 at night (I'm suspecting allergies), if I don't count this as being enough for now, ain't nothing gonna be posted here.

...also, as a note, RPing and writing Takeuchi Sora has been absolute hell on my grasp of standard English. I've never in my entire life thought in so many double-negatives.

Knock, knock! Is anybody there~? Knock, knock! It really isn't fair~

Feb. 11th, 2008 | 12:46 pm

First, to be a lemming.

☆ THE ROLEPLAYERS LOVE MEME ☆

Next, to be a cranky old lady. Or not so much cranky, even, as just bewildered by the times in which we live.

Am I out of touch with current custom, or do people not knock on doors anymore? Or is it an aspect of geographically-based culture that I'm failing to grasp? See, I'm not talking about bedroom doors or doors to rooms whose contents you might not know or any sort of general door like that. I'm talking about bathroom doors, specifically the one where I work. Not a multi-user restroom door, of course, but the type of bathroom door like you'd have in a home -- a regular door with a regular knob that one would assume conceals a one-person bathroom. I can't tell you how many times I've been in there, door closed, lights (and fan -- it's not exactly silent!) on inside, doing what a person does do, when- YANKRATTLERATTLE. I've been lucky that the lock as held every time that's happened -- it's an old door and, yes, sometimes I've gone to leave and found that the lock, in fact, hadn't caught -- but is it really so very much incumbent upon a person who would naturally be somewhat occupied at the moment to make sure that they're completely secured against assault? If there is, in fact, someone behind that door, they're probably in a rather vulnerable position!

Maybe it's a deeper matter of personal philosophy at work here -- does one just assume that the door is open to one, regardless of whether it actually is open or closed? Or perhaps this is just life's revenge for all of those times that I got locked inside of that bathroom at my friend's house. I can almost here myself pounding on the door now. Ah, those were good times.

And don't even get me started on drivers using their directional signals.

Unsurprisingly, I'm late for even Chinese New Year with my "last year is past, new year is here"-type entry. Given that it seems like the winter weather that's coming upon us means that I'll be home tomorrow rather than taking care of business down in the city, I'll attempt to spin my amazing tale of astonishing denial and subsequent rebirth via shounen retardation then. I've really been failing at an amazing level with this journal lately, but life sort of did a one-eighty (not a bad one-eighty! but still, for someone unaccustomed to anything more dramatic than maybe a, say, right angle, at the most) on me a few weeks ago, and I've been sort of flailing against nothing since then.

The Demon Butcher of Upstate

mood: awake awake

And so, alas, the things I would write, save that I don't have much time before I must head off to meet my grandfather. But this shall be a grand meeting, for I am going to go with him to the SUPERMARKET where he, a former butcher, will pass on to me his wisdom about MEAT. This is something that I, being the carnivorously-inclined food-lover that I am, have requested him to teach me, in hopes that I, too, can be a meat genius.

Though I will make a couple of sadly neglected notes right now: [info]_lmn_, thank you so much for the card (it's a good thing I was home alone when I opened and read it, since I literally squealed) and the tea, and [info]valancystar, I apologize for being an idiot, but your Christmas card got lost in the pile of my other Christmas cards and, in my holiday-induced dull-headedness, I only put regular U.S. postage on it and, thus, got a lovely "return to sender."

I had been planning on writing an actual entry and reviewing the past year and looking forward to the next and offering my opinion on several topics where no one's asking for it.

But then the dog went missing and there was over an hour of trecking through the snow in the woods in the dark.

Fortunately, she has been found! Came wandering out of the woods like she hadn't a care in the world. But I'm spent. So have some memes.

ONE!

The problem with LJ: we all think we're so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

You can also ask Deep Meaningful things. I'll answer those, too.

TWO!

What [censored for lack of f-lock] Means

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.

You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.

Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.

You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.

You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

...amazingly accurate! Or, at least, I'd like it to be. Let's strive for that, then.

AND THREE!

78% Hillary Clinton
78% Barack Obama
77% Chris Dodd
73% Bill Richardson
72% Mike Gravel
70% Dennis Kucinich
68% Joe Biden

35% Mitt Romney
